Short Description:
Philips C5-2 convex array ultrasound probe tested on a compatible ultrasound platform. Probe initializes and produces partial imaging; however, significant sector dropout is present. Being sold strictly for parts or repair.
Condition Summary:
Probe Housing & Lens:
Probe head and handle are in good cosmetic condition. No cracks observed. Acoustic lens is smooth and intact.
Cable:
Approximately 8 ft cable. No cuts, tears, or exposed wiring observed. Strain relief is intact.
Connector:
Cartridge-style connector. Crack noted on connector housing. Pins appear intact; however, structural compromise may affect signal transmission.
Functionality / Testing Summary:
Air Scan:
Image is generated; however, complete loss of signal across approximately 50% of the sector (right side) is observed, indicating major element/channel failure.
Phantom Scan:
Findings are consistent with air scan — persistent right-side dropout, confirming the issue is not environmental but internal to the probe.
Body Scan (Abdominal – RUQ):
Probe demonstrates penetration and tissue visualization on the left side only. The right half of the imaging field remains absent, significantly limiting diagnostic usability.
Vascular Scan (Color Doppler – Carotid):
Color Doppler function is responsive on the active portion of the array. However, flow mapping is restricted to the left half, with complete signal absence on the right.
Professional Functional Assessment:
The probe is recognized by the system and partially functional; however, it exhibits a uniform half-sector dropout across all imaging modes. This pattern is highly suggestive of:
- Array element failure (group/channel failure) and/or
- Connector-related signal loss due to observed housing damage
The defect is consistent, reproducible, and independent of scanning conditions.
