 TEG 5000 Hemostasis Analyzer – Brief Info:

The Haemoscope TEG 5000 is a Thromboelastograph Hemostasis Analyzer that provides real-time, whole blood assessment of coagulation. It is widely used in surgery, trauma, cardiac care, liver transplant, and hematology to evaluate coagulation status and guide transfusion decisions.

It analyzes the entire clotting process—from initial fibrin formation to clot strength and eventual fibrinolysis (clot breakdown).

 Key Components of the TEG 5000 System:

1. TEG 5000 Analyzer Unit:

   • The main analytical instrument.
     

   • Contains channels where blood samples are tested.
     

   • Usually comes in 2-channel or 4-channel versions.

2. Computer with TEG Software:

   • Runs proprietary software to record and interpret results.
     

   • Displays graphical data such as the TEG tracing (signature curve).

   • May be built-in or external.
     

3. Disposable Cups and Pins (TEG Cups and TEG Pins):

   • Cup holds the blood sample.

   • Pin is suspended and immersed in the blood sample.

   • The rotation of the cup generates a trace based on clot resistance.
     

   • Single-use to prevent cross-contamination.

4. Reaction Reagents:

   • Used to activate the coagulation process.
     

   • Common reagents include:
     

     • Kaolin

     • Heparinase

     • Activator F (for fibrinogen analysis)

5. Pipettes / Sample Transfer Tools:

   • For accurately transferring whole blood into the testing cups.
     

6. Quality Control Materials:

   • Used to ensure accurate and consistent performance.
     

 Key TEG Parameters (Displayed by Software):

• R-Time (Reaction Time): Time until initial clot formation.
• K-Time: Time from clot initiation to a fixed strength.
• Alpha Angle: Speed of fibrin build-up and cross-linking.
• MA (Maximum Amplitude): Maximum strength of the clot.
• LY30: Percentage of clot lysis 30 minutes after MA.
